All you really need is an air float table on a Bridgeport utility mill with home made fixtures to hold the head. Then of course the pilots, cutters, and reamers. Bingo: seat and guide machine. Plus you could change out tooling quickly to resurface the head with a large fly cutter. With a big enough mill like a Sajo you could even resurface blocks.

Nov 26, 2021They usually don't have a parallel surface opposite the head sealing surface...so you're always playing with the setup to try to get it flat and stable. Agree, it requires an incredible combination of fixturing stuff to accurately position some exhaust manifolds on a mill. They move around more than one would think if not locked down in every direction. The Ford FE 390"/428" always need the exhaust port area of the head as well as the exhaust manifold resurfaced.
